Acerola cherry (Malpighia glabra) is a tropical fruit-bearing shrub or small tree in the family Malpighiaceae. The common names are Acerola, Barbados cherry, West Indian cherryand wild crapemyrtle. It is known for being extremely rich in vitamin C.

Acerola contains 10–50 times more vitamin C by weight than oranges.It also contains vitamins A, B1, B2 and B3 as well as carotenoids and bioflavonoids which provide very important nutritive value and a possible use as an antioxidant.
