The difference betwwen Active PFC and Passive PFC

Inductance compensation methods commonly used passive PFC ac input of fundamental wave current and the phase difference between voltage decreases to improve power factor, passive PFC including passive PFC and the mute mute type passive PFC.

The power factor of passive PFC can only reach 0.7 ~ 0.8, which is generally near the high voltage filter capacitor.

The active PFC is composed of inductance capacitance and electronic components, which are small in size and adjust the waveform of the current through special IC to compensate the phase difference between the current voltage.

Active PFC can achieve high power factor, usually up to 98%, but also relatively high cost.

In addition, the active PFC also can be used as auxiliary power supply, so in the use of active PFC circuit, often do not need to standby transformer, and active PFC dc output voltage ripple is small, this kind power supply don't use the large capacity filter capacitor.
